Flesh vs Holy Spirit pt.3

Romans 8:13-15

New International Version (NIV)

13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, “Abba,[b] Father.”

Flesh equals death.

Spirit equals life.

It sounds harsh to say that we must be dead to the flesh- our bodies, but because we are to have the spirit of God, it makes up for the “loss”. We as humans do not like sacrifice, we would pretty much do anything to avoid having to sacrifice anything and everything. This is why it is so hard for us to make a sacrifice as detrimental as not being led by our thoughts, emotions and urges to do things that we know weren’t necessarily of God. You don’t have to swinging from the rafters in order to be operating in the flesh.

There is nothing greater than to have the spirit of God dwelling within you and there for you when you don’t know what think or expect. Having the Holy Spirit is like having your math professor whispering the answers in your ear when working on an exam; he keeps us out of harms why by alerting us to potential dangerous situations and praying for us when we don’t know what we should say.

“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves….”

You are not a slave to the Holy Spirit, but you are made one with it. You have to choose if you are going to follow the spirit or just do your own thing, that’s part of our free will, the Holy Spirit can not force us to do something that we don’t want to do. All he can do is back off and watch. Think of it like this, how is better apt to teach a class about the basics of Algebra, you or the teacher?
