Matthew 15:17-20
King James Version (KJV)
17 Do
not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the
belly, and is cast out into the draught?
18 But
those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they
defile the man.
19 For
out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications,
thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20 These
are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not
a man.
Our parents have always told us if we couldn’t say
anything nice, don’t say anything at all. On the same note, we’re told whatever
people say about us to us doesn’t matter and “words won’t hurt us”.
It’s true that if we can’t say something nice about
someone don’t say it all, but how often do we really do it?? Let alone think
about something bad about a person. Did you know that that is just as bad
saying something rude or mean to someone?
That was a real “mind-blower” for me when I first
heard that. I thought I was being good by not saying anything to my enemies,
but I was still thinking along those words.
Because it’s what comes from within us that “defiles”
us, not what is said to us or what we physically do. It’s those inappropriate
thoughts that are conjured up that is the catalyst then if you say them out
loud is the next step. When we get use to thinking wrong, we will eventually
say wrong and if we let it go any further we’ll do wrong and be further removed
from those things that were once good.
To be continued…..
